City's adaptive art classes for adults run through Nov. 10

Walnut Creek’s adaptive art classes for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities are continuing into November, offering a creative and supportive environment for participants 18 and older. The city’s Specialized Recreation program hosts two classes: ceramics on Mondays and drawing and painting on Tuesdays, providing a vital outlet for artistic expression and social interaction. These classes are held at the Civic Park Community Center and are part of a broader initiative to support individuals with disabilities, fostering creativity and social skills among participants.

Walnut Creek’s Specialized Recreation program has a long-standing commitment to inclusivity and community engagement, funded by the Regional Center of the East Bay (RCEB), a nonprofit under contract with the California Department of Developmental Services. The ceramics class meets on Mondays from 10 to 11:30 a.m., starting September 14 and running through November 9, while the drawing and painting class is held on Tuesdays from 5 to 6 p.m., from September 8 to November 10. Both classes are held at the Civic Park Community Center. Participants can also look forward to upcoming social events, including Santa's Quiet Corner, a low-sensory visit with Santa, which will be offered in Spanish and is expected to open for registration soon.
