Pleasant Hill chamber members get free entry to a January employment-law day

Pleasant Hill Chamber of Commerce members have their own way into a full day of California employment-law training next January, and it does not cost the $100 that everyone else pays.

The program is the Northern California Legal Update, run by the HR Executive Compliance Council. It is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2027, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at National University, 100 Ellinwood Way in Pleasant Hill, according to the council's event listing.

Three tickets are on offer. General admission is $100 plus a $2.50 service fee. A ticket for council members is $25 plus 63 cents, and its description says admission is free and the charge covers lunch. The third is labeled Pleasant Hill Chamber Access and is limited to chamber members; its description also says admission is free and covers lunch, though the listing still shows a $100 figure on that tier. Chamber members should confirm what they owe before they register.

The council lists the Pleasant Hill chamber among its partners and sponsors, alongside employment-law firms including Fisher Phillips, Littler, Buchalter and Trucker Huss.

The HR Executive Compliance Council is a California nonprofit based in Sacramento, at 1401 21st St. Its members get monthly webinars at no extra charge, legal and regulatory updates written for all states with a California emphasis, and HRCI, SHRM and MCLE credit for eligible sessions, according to the council's site. Its webinar calendar for the next few months includes employee handbooks in October and workplace violence prevention in December.

That is the practical case for a small employer here: California's employment rules change every January, and most shops on Contra Costa Boulevard do not have an in-house HR department to read them.
