The Walnut Creek City Council joined downtown restaurant owners, boutique merchants, and regional arts organizers on Monday morning to launch the Autumn Promenade Initiative along Locust Street and Cypress Street. Designed to invigorate commercial foot traffic ahead of the holiday shopping season, the civic program expands sidewalk dining parklets, installs warm ambient cafe lighting, and schedules acoustic musicians and family-friendly craft demonstrations every weekend through Thanksgiving.

Downtown Walnut Creek Association Executive Director Kathy Hemmenway outlined the merchant collaboration during an early morning presentation at City Hall on Civic Drive. Commercial retail occupancy across the downtown core has rebounded to 94 percent following steady leasing activity among independent regional restaurateurs and apparel brands. City officials noted that the seasonal program builds upon the lasting popularity of outdoor dining while maintaining pedestrian clearance and emergency vehicle access along California Boulevard.

Patrons visiting from Alamo, Danville, Lafayette, and Concord commended the city for enhancing downtown walkability. Parking garage signage and mobile parking payment apps have been updated to offer the first hour free in municipal garages on Locust and South Broadway, easing congestion during popular dinner hours. In addition, the city's complimentary downtown trolley service will run on expanded 12-minute headways on Friday evenings and weekends to shuttle visitors seamlessly between the Walnut Creek BART station and Broadway Plaza.

Retailers, dining patrons, and visitors can explore participating merchant discounts, live musical schedules, and parking maps online at walnutcreekdowntown.com or walnut-creek.org. General questions regarding downtown event permits and merchant participation may also be directed to the Walnut Creek Downtown Association office Monday through Friday between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM at (925) 933-6778. The first seasonal street music showcase kicks off this coming Friday afternoon at 4:30 PM.
