Joybound People & Pets Expands Tri-Valley Mobile Veterinary Wellness Clinics
Walnut Creek nonprofit deploys mobile clinical resources, subsidized wellness care, and community pet pantry support for Tri-Valley families.

Joybound People & Pets continues to expand its regional mobile veterinary outreach across Tri-Valley communities, deploying specialized clinical resources and community assistance programs to help local families access affordable preventative care for companion animals. The initiative focuses on keeping cherished pets healthy and living safely with their guardians during a period of escalating clinical costs throughout the greater Bay Area.
The East Bay animal welfare organization, headquartered at its 2800 Mitchell Drive campus in Walnut Creek, rebranded in 2024 from Tony La Russa's Animal Rescue Foundation to reflect an expanded focus on the mutual bond between pets and people. Through its flagship Stephen Ball Mobile Clinic, a 33-foot custom-equipped veterinary unit known to staff and volunteers as Peabody, Joybound provides low-cost spay and neuter procedures, core vaccinations, and microchipping directly in neighborhood settings throughout Contra Costa and Alameda counties.
Under the leadership of President and Chief Executive Officer Susan Lee Vick, the nonprofit has deepened its community-facing safety net initiatives to prevent unnecessary shelter surrenders driven by rising veterinary medical expenses. Joybound operates a specialized Community Veterinary Care fund that offers sliding-scale diagnostic services and subsidized treatment for pet guardians facing severe economic hardship, alongside a complimentary pet food pantry supported by civic donors, Purina, and regional retail partners. In addition to general companion animal care, Joybound offers veteran pet wellness programs and trains psychiatric service dogs through its dedicated shelter-to-service animal initiatives.
Regional animal welfare advocates and Contra Costa municipal shelter coordinators emphasize that targeted mobile clinics remain vital for preserving household stability. By meeting families where they live in Dublin, Pleasanton, San Ramon, and Danville, the mobile clinical team identifies manageable health conditions before minor ailments escalate into medical crises that force agonizing relinquishment decisions. The nonprofit also maintains its permanent on-site Lynn and Dolores McCoskey Spay and Neuter Clinic in Walnut Creek for advanced surgical procedures and routine wellness examinations.
Tri-Valley pet guardians seeking subsidized mobile clinic appointments, low-cost spay and neuter scheduling, or veterinary financial assistance can review program eligibility criteria and upcoming clinic locations online at joybound.org or by calling the Walnut Creek center at (925) 256-1273. Joybound also welcomes walk-in donations of unopened pet food at its Mitchell Drive headquarters Tuesday through Saturday to support regional distribution pantries throughout the autumn season.
