The Hercules City Council appointed Mike Futrell as city manager on Sept. 22, giving him a three-year term at an annual salary of $260,000, Contra Costa Pulse reported.

The approval was part of the consent calendar, a portion of the agenda reserved for non-controversial items that are not separately discussed, according to the report. Closed sessions on filling the role preceded the vote.

"The Council is confident that his experience, judgment and commitment to public service will serve Hercules well," Mayor Chris Kelley said in a statement, according to Contra Costa Pulse.

Futrell most recently served as Riverside's city manager for more than three years before resigning this summer, the publication reported. He succeeds Patrick Tang, who had filled the role on an interim basis since March.
