CONCORD & BRENTWOOD, Calif. — Municipal leaders in Concord and community organizers in Brentwood advanced household assistance and seasonal food-drive initiatives this week, led by a Concord City Council proposal to consider $75,000 in one-time emergency support for local families and the arrival of Brentwood Regional Community Chest collection barrels.

Concord City Council to Review $75,000 Household Assistance Proposal After $293,000 Revenue Vote

As reported by Claycord, the Concord City Council is preparing to consider a proposal to allocate $75,000 in one-time city funds to the Concord Immigrants Protection Network, a community organization that helps families cover basic household necessities such as food and utilities when a household wage earner is unable to provide income due to federal immigration enforcement activity.

Vice Mayor Dominic Aliano introduced the $75,000 allocation request during the council’s October 27 meeting as the city reviewed operating agreements with 2 cannabis businesses, Stizzy and Coastal Retail Conquer, that provide Concord with a combined $293,000 in one-time payments to its general fund. Aliano suggested directing $75,000 from those one-time revenues toward the assistance program.

After the city attorney advised that funding a community organization requires a separate agendized item and potentially a formal application process, the City Council voted 5-0 to approve the Stizzy and Coastal Retail Conquer agreements without immediately earmarking the funds. Later in the October 27 session, Mayor Laura Nakamura confirmed that 3 councilmembers supported bringing the $75,000 funding proposal back for a dedicated City Council discussion and vote.
