Christie Road work in Martinez runs through Sept. 23

Contra Costa County Public Works starts road work on Christie Road in Martinez on Wednesday, Sept. 16, and expects to finish by Wednesday, Sept. 23, the department said in a notice issued Sept. 10.

Crews will work Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting. Temporary lane closures will be in effect, with traffic control directing vehicles through the work area. Drivers should expect delays of up to 15 minutes during working hours.

Christie Road is not a commute route for most people, which is why it is easy to get caught out. It is the address of Fernandez Ranch, the John Muir Land Trust preserve at 1081 Christie Road, so the closures sit on the way to the trailhead.

More than 1,180 acres of the ranch are open to the public, on the Windmill, Black Phoebe, Woodrat and Whipsnake trails, with a connection to the Bay Area Ridge Trail. Well-behaved dogs are allowed off leash. Anyone heading out on a weekday morning this week should add the quarter hour.
