Antioch City Council to Hold Closed Session on Interim City Manager Appointment

Antioch City Council will hold a special Closed Session meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 1:30 PM. According to the Antioch Herald, the meeting will discuss the appointment of an interim city manager and the recruitment of a new permanent city manager.

The current City Manager, Bessie Scott, whose two-year contract ends on Oct. 8, 2026, was hired in August 2024 on a 3-2 vote with a Step B salary of $263,880 annually.

Scott has been on paid leave since May 5 following a 4-0 Closed Session council vote with Tamisha Torres-Walker abstaining.

Ana Cortez, the current Acting City Manager and Director of Human Resources, is expected to be appointed as Interim City Manager.

The council will also discuss the public employee recruitment process for a new permanent city manager.

The city is currently in receipt of information concerning possible violations of the Labor Code Section 1102.5 and the Fair Employment and Housing Act.
