San Francisco-based artificial intelligence company Anthropic donated $900,000 across Democratic Party committees and voter-turnout groups in California ahead of Tuesday's election, according to Friday campaign finance filings reported by Jennifer Wadsworth in The San Francisco Standard.

The late-stage contributions include $525,000 to the California Democratic Party — adding to $850,000 Anthropic donated to the state party earlier in the cycle for a total of $1.375 million — alongside $150,000 to a get-out-the-vote organization and $45,000 apiece to the Democratic County Central Committees in 5 counties: San Francisco, San Mateo, Orange, Fresno, and Siskiyou.

Funding Competitive State Senate Contests via County Committees

Under California campaign finance rules, donors who have reached direct contribution limits to individual legislative candidates can contribute to county central committees, which are permitted to transfer funds to other party committees and competitive legislative campaigns across the state.

Nancy Tung, chair of the San Francisco Democratic Party, told The San Francisco Standard that the San Francisco committee has raised roughly $500,000 from major donors — including Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen — to help California Democrats defend their supermajority in the State Senate. Tung said the San Francisco committee directed $300,000 to Central Valley Democratic State Sen. Melissa Hurtado, who won reelection in 2022 by 13 votes, and $100,000 to Southern California Democratic State Sen. Catherine Blakespear.

Ballot Measure Contributions and Federal Campaign Giving

In addition to its Democratic Party committee donations, Anthropic has funded local, statewide, and national political initiatives during the 2026 cycle:

  • San Francisco and Statewide Ballot Measures: Anthropic contributed $500,000 to support San Francisco's Proposition H, which would raise pay for entry-level San Francisco firefighters, and $500,000 to support California's Proposition 1, a statewide measure extending a higher cap on political donations to legislative candidates who agree to voluntary campaign spending limits.
  • Federal Super PAC and Employee Donations: Nationally, Anthropic has contributed $40 million to Public First Action, a super PAC backing federal candidates who support AI safety guardrails. According to a San Francisco Standard analysis of federal disclosures from the first half of 2026, Anthropic employees also contributed $3.83 million to federal campaigns, with 99% of those employee donations going to Democratic candidates and causes.
